Getting Here

CAR

From the North follow the A171 from Guisborough across the moors or take the same road from Scarborough if you are that side of Whitby.

From the South and West, leave the A1M onto the A64 for York. Then take the A169 after Malton, drive through Pickering and follow the signs to Whitby. TIP - amazing views of the whole of Whitby at the top of Blue Bank, just before you begin the descent down into the town.

TRAIN

There is a train station in Whitby which  is served by Northern Rail. You will have to change if you are making your whole journey by rail - direct trains go through the heart of the moors to Middlesborough where you can make connection to Newcastle in the north or London in the south. It's not a quick journey but wonderful views! The nearest alternative stations are Scarborough or Malton, both with connections to York.

The North York Moors Railway runs from Whitby across to Pickering if you fancy a trip on a steam train. It takes you through the moors villages such as Goathland and Grosmont and offers wonderful views. https://www.nymr.co.uk/

BUS

The Coastliner 840 bus has been voted the most scenic bus route in Britain. You can get on in Leeds and come direct to Whitby via York and North York Moors. Some services are direct and some require a change in Malton - see the  information here https://www.transdevbus.co.uk/coastliner/
